School Day

School opens each morning at 7:30 am. Before School care is available. Most classes start at 8:30 am with dismissal at 2:30 pm for Children’s House and 3:30 pm for Elementary students with optional After School care and enrichments until 5:30 pm. Half-day programs are available for Children’s House students.

Kindergarten and Elementary students who reside in Shrewsbury are eligible for Shrewsbury Public School bus service through the Town of Shrewsbury Department of Transportation.

Our academic year runs from September through the beginning of June.

School History

1972Mrs. Nancy Corkum opened her first school, Treetops, with 5 children, in Dudley, MA
1976Auburn Campus is opened.
1981To accommodate growing enrollment, Children’s House (CH) is established and several more classrooms are opened in various locations in Shrewsbury, including Mt. Olivet church.

1986The house at 55 Oak Street, Shrewsbury, is purchased and an addition is built with six classrooms which allows SMS to consolidate it’s program under one roof.
1989Two more additional classrooms are added to the main Shrewsbury Campus.
1992First class of 6th Years graduates.
1998The All-Purpose Room and the media center/library/language classroom are built as part of the 2nd addition.
2004Mrs. Corkum, the founder of SMS, announces her retirement and a group of parents help convert the school to a not-for-profit 501(C)(3) organization.
2013SMS is accredited by the Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE).
2015SMS is accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS).
2016The 6th Years go on their first trip to the Island School in the Bahamas. Innovation and Technology program is added to the curriculum.
2017Worcester Campus Opened. SMS begins a 5 year partnership with Radcliffe Montessori American School in Shanghai, China.
