Toddler Program

18 Months – 2.9 Years Old

Montessori believes education starts at birth. At Shrewsbury Montessori School, we offer a Toddler Program to children from 18 months to 2.9 years old.

As the youngest learners at the school, many of our toddler children develop some of their first relationships outside of home. They are developing a visible need to assert their desire for independence, express their own personality, stay physical active and intellectually curious. Our Toddler Program offers a joyous, loving, and respectful environment to our youngest learners to develop and meet critical toddler developmental milestones.

The overarching goal is to support the children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth and to foster their sense of being in a secure, stimulating environment.

Curriculum is Focused on:

Self-Care

Washing, dressing, toileting, and eating, according to each child’s individual capacity

Care of the Environment:

Cleaning, plant and animal care

Large-Motor Activities (indoors and out)

Walking, climbing, running, jumping, balancing, and climbing steps

Fine-Motor Skills

Reaching, grasping, picking up objects, transferring objects, using tools and utensils, and doing art work

Language

Naming objects, describing actions and intentions, discussing pictures, conversation, music, and singing

French Immersion: Dr. Montessori concluded that children from birth to age six are best poised to learn language. During this time, children are able to learn language simply by living around others who are using language. Our Assistant teacher will support the classroom teacher and students by primarily speaking in French.
